World Cancer Day - free Screening for Women Nigerian women face a lot of challenges; socially and health wise. They bear the brunt of consequences of their sexuality or childbearing. We realize that cervical cancer is an important underlining problem affecting Nigerian women. The death of a woman from cervical cancer causes ambiguous loss to their household, community and the nation significantly (ACCP 2004b). The economic loss due to cervical cancer cannot be overemphasized. The management of this deadly ailment is difficult and cure is usually very impossible. Ultimately painful symptomatic death occurs! Control of cervical cancer in Nigeria will contribute to achieving four out of the eight Millennium Developmental Goals. The disease is preventable through health promotions, early detention (comprehensible screening procedures) and treatment of precancer. World Cancer day is here and Calvary Cross Care whose major hub is on prevention intends to leverage on the celebration of the world cancer day to run free cervical cancer screening for about 1,000 women.

Calvary Cross Care is an organization striving to address the gap in the availability of low cost primary health care in rural as well urban areas. We are inspired by the motive to provide health care facilities to the socio-economic pyramid and even to the lowest strata of it.

The goal of CCC is to set up primary health care centres in the remotest areas of the country, providing OPD facilities as well as medication to the low income, hard to reach population in Nigeria and West Africa as a whole.
